Ugh. I’m feeling gross. We went to dinner last night and even though I ordered an amazing chicken salad I also managed to eat my way through half a rather big bowl of wedges. With the works.
Not such a big deal if it was a once off, but we just moved States 3 days ago and in moving madness have been mostly eating out, which means more food, more carby food than I would normally eat, and definitely less fresh greens. I keep telling myself I’ll get back on track and have a super healthy day but then we end up out again and Enzo keeps ordering delicious sides that I KNOW won’t make me feel good but yet I eat anyway! And because I was feeling a little ugh about it I (naturally) polished off the remains of a packet of choc-mint balls I’d bought at the airport.
I know. I am SMART.
Do you ever feel as though the world is conspiring to keep you eating crap or to keep you stuck when it comes to your body goal? Sometimes you really do have the best intentions, and even make a plan for yourself that is totally doable but yet the end of the day comes and you have to admit that once again you’ve ignored the idea of that green smoothie and given in to other people’s food patterns or just gone for convenience and a quick fix in the midst of your busy day.
It’s definitely not an issue if it’s an occasional sort of thing (like once a week, maybe more depending on your goals) but at the end of the day if you’re not feeling good? Well – you’re not feeling good! So it makes sense to do something about it.
Here’s a bit of a talking to I gave to myself and that I think you might enjoy … or at least benefit from 🙂
Take ownership. It’s fine to eat how you want if the outcome is that you are proud of yourself and your body and food choices. But if you’re just letting yourself be pulled along and you’re starting to feel bloated and crappy all the time then it’s up to YOU to do something about it. Just like I can’t tell Enzo he shouldn’t eat wedges (the man is sub 10% no matter what he eats GRRRR!!) I can’t tell myself I ‘had’ to eat them. Make a choice to MAKE A CHOICE- don’t pretend you don’t have a choice or you are by default choosing NOT to choose? Confused? The moral is – take ownership for your body. Your choices. Now.
Decide in advance how you want to feel tonight. How do you want to feel when you go to bed this evening? I don’t just mean physically, but emotionally, about yourself. Work backwards from there – what would you need to do or not do to achieve that?
Plan ahead. If you’re going out or you have a busy day then organise some healthy snacks in advance. It’s so easy to do but if you don’t do it then you kind of do end up screwed as you get so starving that all good intent goes out the window. Plus it’s not always easy to find food on the go.
At restaurants. Usually an entree size is enough – don’t overeat just because it’s there. So many restaurants make huge portion sizes, if you add a side or two to your meal you can end up eating double or triple of what you really need!
Get aligned with why you’re doing this. You might think it’s motivating to focus on the bikini body but it’s really not. If that were enough motivation you’d have achieved and maintained it by now! What IS motivating is tuning in to what really matters to you. If you want to look a certain way, why is that? How do you want it to make you FEEL? For me it’s about pride – I want to eat in such a way that I feel proud of myself.
The truth is that the world (and anybody in it) has no power over your food and body choices, only you do. But it’s easy to get caught up in a pattern of thinking you have no control. Hopefully today’s blog gives you a wake up call and inspiration to get back to feeling awesome about yourself!
