Let’s talk results. Getting ’em, keeping ’em, staying sane on the way to them. Be honest now –

You’re not (quite) there yet, are you?

The truth, of course, is that nobody ever really considers themselves ‘there’ – even my clients and readers who’ve lost over 20 kilos still ask me what the next step is!

So firstly I want to say to you –

You really are enough already. You’ve already made a difference. You’re already a different woman to who you were a year ago, a month ago, even a week ago.

The truest measure of success is enjoying the journey; enjoying where you are right now.

But yes. It’s okay to want more.

It’s okay to want to look and feel your very best. It’s okay to want to be hot!


I want to share with you some ‘whys’ that may lie behind your struggle to master that final fat loss hurdle, or to get as toned as you’d like, or just to feel as good as you’d like; as though you have it all together and can stay on track.

11 Ways To Super-Charge Your Results!

Nutrition: Keep Your Body Guessing.

SO many women I speak with are stuck in a nutritional rut. I call it ‘fear-of-instantly-gaining-10kg-overnight-if-I-do-something-different’. Otherwise known as fear of carbs, fear of fats or too much fat, fear of eating too much, fear of not eating enough or not eating at the right time, fear of fruit or sugar or God! fear of life.

If you suffer any of these common but often secret food afflictions it’s time to give yourself a break. Know this:

You will stagnate, plateau and eventually probably gain back some of your lost weight if you stick to the same nutrition approach day in and day out.

The truth is that unless we’re talking trans fats, uber-processed grains, margarine (ugh!) or anything else otherwise far removed from how nature created it, you will not get fat from mixing things up.

On the contrary, throwing some more carbs in once in a while (yep even fruit and other sugars!) when you usually avoid them like the plague is often the perfect metabolic supercharge.

Take home point: When it comes to how you eat, eat real food. But vary the way you eat it. Experiment. Learn to listen in to your natural appetite and know that it’s okay – in fact vital! – to ‘just go with it’ once in a while.

Accountability And Motivation: Find A Way To Get What You Need!

It’s time to wake up and admit it gorgeous –

You’re only human. We all have days when we feel unmotivated, flat or just blah. I know I do! Just this Monday I seriously wanted to spend the whole day in bed eating chocolate. Just one of those days I guess. Which is fine if it’s now and then but if you feel as though you’re constantly pushing a huge old pile of stinking mud uphill by yourself it’s time to call in the back-up crew.

This could mean having an agreement with a friend to get each other to the gym or out for a walk when the other feels unmotivated, or it could mean sharing your goals with your partner and asking them support you. I recommend having a few of these accountability and motivation systems in place, as well as doing whatever you can to remind yourself of your goals, such as pinning up inspiring pictures or putting them on your phone home screen.


You Gotta Know Your WHY.

When it comes to setting goals – even awesome ones – most women make a really really serious mistake. They set their goals based on what they think they need to be happy rather than based on how they want to feel. Ask yourself – what are the 3-5 emotions or feelings I’d love to experience each day? Mine include pride, joy, certainty, alignment and excitement. Get your core desired feelings clear and then set goals based on those.

This might mean changing a goal you previously thought mattered a lot – but this way you are setting goals that matter and that is pretty darn important when it comes to actually staying on track but also to being happy when you get there. Don’t you think?

Surround Yourself With The Right People.

This is super-duper-uper-UPER important beautiful. You are the product of the people you spend the most time with. They say you’re the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with. So tell me –

Are those people lifting you up, motivating you, pulling you back on track when you find yourself derailed? Are they helping you to get closer to your goals, or pulling you further away? You cannot escape the reality that your daily environment influences who YOU become. But – you can do something to change that environment. And you can start today.

Are Your Food Choices Boring You Senseless?

so. darn. over. broccoli.

Broccoli, in case you didn’t know, is one of the best vegetables you can eat for fat loss, particularly for leaner legs. But I haven’t touched the stuff all year! Wanna know why? It’s because I pretty much killed it for the last decade forcing it down. And yep, I’ve tried it all sorts of fancy ways but I am just over it! Same goes on occasion for beef, eggs, avocado (bleugh at the moment) and plenty of other healthy foods that I’ve previously enjoyed.

Newsflash: when your tastebuds get bored, so do you. And when your food choices start boring you senseless it is all too easy to start justifying extra treats. So make an effort to make clean eating fun and varied gorgeous, and I promise you it will keep you more easily on track for better results.


Sabotage: There’s Always A Reason. Find It.

Sabotage such as binge or emotional eating usually comes back to one of two things (and often both):

1. It is an outlet, a way of dealing

2. It masks a deeper need, a sense of not being fulfilled or happy

Sabotage has nothing to do with discipline. What it is is a cry for help – a sign that you need something. So ask yourself – what is it that I need? Do I need more time for me? Time to explore my true life passions? Is it possible that the stuff I am pushing so hard to be, do and have is just not making me happy?

The truth is that you deserve to feel happy and in flow and proud of yourself now. Not ‘when you get there’. Stop trying to will yourself out of sabotaging habits and look at why they are taking place in the first place.

What Goes Up Must Come Dooooownnnnn … (This Means Rest And Sleep! Enough!)

Running on coffee and adrenaline? Check.

Burning the candle at both ends so I can fit in extra training in the morning and still have a life at night? Check check check!

We’ve all been there, but the reality you have to face is you cannot play God with your hormones and body clock and expect to get away with it. You’re simply not designed to constantly stress your body with too much training, no enough sleep, too much time indoors on email and sitting. You are designed to go. stop. go.

When you go-go-GO for years on end (which isn’t uncommon) your body starts to work against you. One of the key ways this happens is an imbalance of the hormones cortisol and insulin, both of which can promote fat storage. Speaking of which –

Get Your Fat Loss Hormones Working For You.

Hormones such as insulin, cortisol and estrogen all have the power to cause you to hold fat regardless of how you eat or exercise. A key one to be aware of is cortisol, the stress hormone. Living a stress-fuelled life creates an excess of the stuff which (long story short) leads you to store excess fat around your mid-section.


Are You Training For (True) Fat Loss, Or Kidding Yourself?

It’s an easy trap to fall into – the fear of not doing enough cardio, or not doing enough training in general. Again, something I myself have battled in the past and sometimes still do! That sense that “if I don’t do my hour of cardio today – even for one day – I’ll probably gain 10kg overnight!”

Being trapped by a constant need to train or feel you should train can take over your life and it’s also counter-productive. Effective weight loss sessions don’t need to be more than 45 minutes long. Aim for 3 strength training workouts a week (I call them Sculpt workouts in The Academy) and 2-3 of what I call ‘Metabolic’ or ‘Burn’ sessions, which are high intensity circuits or ‘Shred’ interval-based cardio. When done properly this doesn’t need to take more than 3 or 4 hours a week total, and if you’re pushed for time you can get results in as little as 2 hours per week.

More is sometimes okay, but necessary it is NOT, so stop kidding yourself that you have to be at the gym daily or multiple times per day to get results and start looking at the real reasons WHY you may be struggling.

The Power Of Consistency.

So simple but so powerful. The first article I ever published online some 5 years ago was about the commonalities between my clients who get great results. I covered just 4 points and one of them was consistency.

Changing your body and changing your life doesn’t come down to being the one who puts 100% effort in. That might work for a few days, maybe a few weeks at most, and then what? Be the one who puts a consistent 80-90% effort in, but really make it a day in and day out thing.


Who Is On Your Team? You MUST Have The Right Support.

When it comes to surrounding yourself with the right people, you have to look at who is on your team. If you can’t rely on your friends or colleagues to be a source of support – and even if you can – it can be incredibly helpful to find ‘your community’ online. This might mean regularly interacting on Facebook pages that lift you up. It could also mean taking a big and maybe scary step such as joining my Look Great Naked Academy.
